Students from Swansea University from a range of disciplines apply to take part in the summer programme, held over a month outside term time. Successful applicants receive training to build confidence, learn about their own cultural values and those of others, be able to deal with challenging situations and language barriers and generally prepare them for the volunteering experience.
They are encouraged to fundraise for the Partnership and to continue to volunteer with Discovery SVS on their return from Zambia.
During the Summer Programme, the students plan and deliver a range of workshops and skills sessions for women’s groups in Siavonga.
The content of these workshops are based on our five key themes and which one is used depends on what the women want to learn at that time as well as what the students may feel is appropriate.
